Edward H. Brooks III is the husband of Shirley V. Brooks, R.N. foster-granddaughter of Captain Lincoln H. Barney. Before graduating in 1955 from Freeport High School, Freeport, Maine, Ed joined the U.S. Navy reserves. In 1957, he served on destroyers out of Guantanamo bay, Cuba, during the Cold War Period. His active duty also includes the Berlin Crisis. He spent the Cuban Missile Crisis and the onset of the Vietnam War in the Reverves. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1963.
