Edward H. Brooks III is the husband of Shirley V. Brooks, R.N., foster-granddaughter of Captain Lincoln H. Barney. before graduating in 1955 from Freeport High School, Freeport, Maine, Ed joined the U.S. Navy Reserves. In 1957, he served on destroyers out of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cold War period. His active duty also includes the Berlin Crisis. He spent the Cuban Missile Crisis and onset of the Vietnam War in the Reserves. He was honorably discharged from the United Stated Navy in 1963. He continued his education in insurance and securities, holding all state and federal NASD licenses. He spent 32 successful work years employed with a major insurance company before retiring in 1995. He attended the University of Maine and graduated from Purdue University Institute of Insurance Management. He was confirmed a Life Underwriters Training Fellow at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania in 1975
He is listed in the book dated 2003 for senior athletes, "Who's Who in the national Senior Games Association," winning all 38 medals in nine years. He has served on many committees of his church and local government on fiscal and environmental issues for the past 45 years. He is a current member of the KORA Shrine in Lewiston, Maine.
As a lecturer on the historical period of the Spanish/American War, having lived in the state of Maine for 62 years and presently living in Salem, New Hampshire, the book was a vision. The intended goal of this book is to publish an accurate and true account of the life and times of those American Patriots in 1898 and prior to the Unites States becoming a world power. The book includes the personal, first handwritten accounts of Captain Lincoln Barney and others that believed in a just cause for war and sacrificed all to make others free.
